At
the age of twelve I was allowed by my father to use his precious
Olympus OM10 SLR camera... that was, until he dropped it in
the sea. That brief encounter with a lovely piece of photographic
equipment was enough to spark within me a life-long love of
photography.
The first 'proper' camera I bought myself was a 35mm Canon EOS 300. However, due to
the relatively high cost of having films processed, I then switched to a series of Sony DSCs. Finally, in Spring 2007 I bought my first digital SLR, the Nikon D40X, which despite just being entry-level, I absolutely love.
I now have over 17.000 photos online. Please note that this gallery only includes images taken between 1978-2008. For 2009- onwards please visit me on Flickr

My
trip to Korea may only have lasted 5 days, but I had a great time.
I was welcomed wherever I went, and soon felt that as soon as
I got home I'd have to start planning my next trip to this fascinating
country. In addition to spending time in the shopping capital
of Seoul (home to modern malls and traditional street stalls alike),
I ventured into the outback where I found the most beautiful temples
and kind locals. |

photographs of Expo.02, flying dalmatians, Ronald McDonald,
friends, myself, countryside villas, hammocks lovers and statues
that spent more time smoking cigarettes than standing still. |

30. England, September / October 2002 [66

 |
Returning
to England after a year away was an interesting experience.
It was so strange how, when meeting friends (some of whom I
hadn't seen since 1999) it just felt like I'd seen them the
previous week. People grow up, but they don't seem to change
all that much. Anyhow, I had a great time bombing round the
UK in my Mercedes visiting people all over the place. It was
a three weeks that will not be forgotten! |

Having
spent a year in Japan, September 2002 saw my return to Europe

at that time I was not too snap-happy, but here in this album
containing 12 photographs you'll find a few shots of the place
where I lived and the friends that I met. |

28. Japan, August 2002 [58
photographs on 4 pages]
|
 |
August
2002 was the last of four months that I spent in the isolated
northern-Japanese resort town of Niseko. I climbed a volcano,
met some of the most feminine boys in the land, took photos
of friends, went hot-air ballooning, went rafting and generally
tried to keep as busy as possible to not go completely insane.

 |
27. Japan, July 2002 [34
photographs on 3 pages]
|
 |
It
was mid-summer in Northern Japan, and I was busy hugging lumps
of concrete and taking photos of mother nature. There were also
a few deer around, the odd village that had been struck by a
volcano, sunflowers, Granny's dressed as 6-year-olds as well
as the Return of Harry and Larry, along with their cousin Barry. |

I
was well into my second month of isiolation working at the family-run
guest house in Northern Japan when thankfully, a new friend
appeared on the scene in the form of Adam. Together, we set
out on hitch-hiking trip of Western Hokkaido, which involved
festivals, fireworks and fun in all forms. Shame we had to go
through the hangover routine too. |

25. Japan, May 2002 [45

 |
It
was my first taste of the real Japanese outback. Away from the
English-speaking crowds. Away from the skyscrapers - The northern
island of Hokkaido welcomed me with it's beautiful scenery,
requests for morris-dancing performances and a tour of the Sapporo
Beer brewery.

It

welcomed us, as did a rowing boat, a bunch of semi-tame deer,
a wild boar and a golden temple...

2002 [25

After

a whole gang of us descened upon a local unsuspecting restaurant
- so the madness really began.

"Hello

Italy
was my final stop on a month-long interrail trip around Europe

Venecia all provided a great backdrop to these 46 photos.

13. Istanbul, March 2001 [49

Istanbul
had always been a mystery to me. Straddling the border between
Europe and Asia, it was a city that was just waiting for some
gullable chap like myself to come along...

12. Berlin, February 2001 [14
photographs on 1 page]
|
|
Berlin
was, in Febraury 2001, a city undergoing a staggering number
of changes. Money was pouring in, enabling the redevelopment
of this fascinating city that will no doubt be a must-see on
anyone's tour of Europe in years to come. I was there for just
a few days on my Interrail trip of Europe with a broken collarbone.

Paris.
Well, what can I say? I was there, alone, at the top of the
Eiffel Tower on Valentines day 2001. It was the first stop on
my Interrail tour of Europe with a broken collarbone. It also
played host to two chaps who stole my huge rucksack from under
my nose...

9. Japan, November / December 2000 [134
photographs on 3 pages]
|
|
A
six week break between seasons in Switzerland gave me the opportunity
to discover Japan for the first time. It was the best six weeks
of my life thus far! Everyone was so kind and friendly, establishing
within me a life-long love of the country.

8. Switzerland, Summer 2000 [28
photographs on 2 pages]
|
Following
a delightfully painful ending to a two-and-a-half-year relationship,
I decided that I needed a complete change of scenery. So it
was that I returned to Switzerland, where I worked for a couple
of months on an organic farm before making my way back up the
mountain to the legendary Kleine Scheidegg.

 |
7. America, Summer 1997 [186
photographs on 3 pages]
|
My
first season in the Swiss Alps in 1997 taught me a few things,
one of which was that there was a huge world out there full
of people who could teach me an awful lot. I couldn't bear the
thought of returning to Herefordshire for that Summer, and so
instead I headed for America, where I joined a community of
300 people my own age who came from over thirty different countries. |
|
 |
6. Switzerland, Winter 1996/1997 [136
photographs on 7 pages]
|
|
In
September 1996 I decided that it was time for me to see the
world. I packed my rucksack, and set off for Australia - my
chosen means of transportation was hitch-hiking. So it was that
when I reached Switzerland I found myself taking not so much
a route east, but more, a route up, way up, into the crazy world
that was and still is Kleine Scheidegg. |

4. Visiting Jo Kirk on Islay, 1991 [16
photographs on 1 page]
|
My
friend Jo Kirk only spent a year or two at the Hereford Waldorf
School, before moving back up north to the Scottish island of
Islay (where's that?). In 1991 I decided to go and visit her
on the lump of rock in the middle of nowhere that boasts being
home to some of the world's finest Whisky.

Although
I was born in Bury-St-Edmunds, England, most of my early years
were spent in Herefordshire, 5 miles from the Welsh border.
Here are a few of the memories that I have from this beautiful
rural county.
